Hey everyone,

I wanted to share with you an original content marketing campaign for Adidas. The idea that I have in mind is to take two of the biggest players in the NBA that is Stephen Curry and LeBron James and pit them against each other. I would present the campaign on Facebook and Twitter where I have the most followers. I would construct an infographic that illustrates the stats of each player and put a poll asking who the audience thinks will win MVP this year. This marketing campaign would be primarily aimed at basketball enthusiasts who live, breath, and eat basketball. It would target to people who enjoy watching basketball, receive updates about the sport and possibly take part in fantasy basketball. This marketing campaign would be time sensitive. I would launch the campaign near the NBA playoffs to ensure that my followers on Facebook and Twitter see the infogram and it is relevant at that time. My goal is to create controversy and spark a debate about who would win MVP based on their stats this season. Moreover, my goal is to generate 2,000 likes on Facebook and 1,000 comments. By pitting the two top contenders for MVP against each other I believe that the audience would comment about who they believe would win MVP, and why they think this person would win. The audience would leave their own two cents about the topic and would also bring their own facts to the table thus starting a debate about the two MVP contenders.

On Instagram Adidas has 861 posts, 7.4 million followers and are following 81 accounts while Reebok has 1,183 posts, 598 thousand followers and are following 316 accounts as of March 12, 2016. Adidas post once everyday while Reebok post twice a day. Adidas posts focus on encouraging the target audience by posting inspirational pictures followed by motivational comments. Similarly Reebok takes the same approach by emphasizing to the audience that a healthy and active lifestyle is they key to staying fit and loving your body. When observing the last 25 posts on Instagram of Reebok and Adidas I determined that there was one from each company that really stood out to me. The first successful post was from Adidas on February 14th 2016. In honour of Valentines Day the company posted a picture that depicts two female legs and it appears to the audience that the females in the picture are kissing. This picture received praise from everyone from the LGBT community to the Huffington Post. Adidas post incorporated keywords and the importance of equal rights of all sexual orientations in their post. Adidas posted “The love you take is equal to the love you make”. The post earned Adidas 299 thousand likes and 168 thousand comments. Reebok’s most successful post-integrated motivational characteristics that help the audience reach their goals. The included multiple key words and pharses such as: “The core of strength is mind over matter”,#BeMoreHuman #HeroRacerBra, #CrossFitLifterPlus, and “Repost from @emilyschromm Love being back to @crossfitpoipu. #reebok #reebokone #beyourownsuperhero”. This post received 9,222 likes and more than 33 comments. After reviewing the number of likes and comments from each post it is evident that the more successful post was the Adidas post because it grabbed the attention of multiple people and organizations around the world.

Blog Post #1

Adidas vs Reebok Facebook

While looking back at the past 25 posts of Reebok and Adidas on Facebook there are some observations that I have noticed. One observation that I have noticed is that Adidas is putting more of an emphasis on their endorsements. Adidas endorsements don’t stop at athletes but supermodels and musicians such as Karlie Kloss and Pharrell Williams. On the other hand Reebok’s posts focuses more on promoting and highlighting the products they are selling and the benefits of such products. Further, Reebok posts industry events such as marathons where consumers can come and partake in the marathon and receive a 30% discount while doing so.

I have noticed some qualities that both athletic companies share. Both brands posts frequently on average once everyday unless there is a major event in the sports industry such as UFC 196 then both brands post something twice or sometimes even thrice in one day. Likewise, both brands incorporate the 50/50 rule where they post on multiple social media platforms. The last similarity I’ve observed about both brand is that they inspire and motivate their consumers to set goals and over come trials and tribulations that get in the way of their goals.

Above are two posts by the sporting companies that I believe are the most successful posts. Some keywords used in Adidas post are “Creators never follow” and “Be who you are and create your own game”. Likewise, Reebok added keywords such as “#UFC 193”. Adidas’ post earned them 3.9 million views, 47 thousand likes and 11,328 shares. Reebok’s post on the other hand only received 34 likes. By measuring the quantifiable data and the number of hits each post received I have concluded that Adidas post is the most successful out of the two posts because it was interesting and created buzz around the posts.
